A girl has as many brothers as sisters, but each brother has only half as many brothers as sisters. How many brothers and sistes are there in the family?

This can actually be solved using mathematical equations. It's mosre or less like word problem!

Let the number of girls be x
Let the number of boys be y

A girl has as many brothers as sisters

So, x - 1 = y

each brother has only half as many brothers as sisters

So, y - 1 = x ÷ 2 we can rewrite this as 2(y - 1) = x

Putting x = 2(y - 1) into x - 1 = y

2y - 2 - 1 = y

Collecting like terms

2y - y = 2 + 1

y = 3

Putting y = 3 into x - 1 = y

x - 1 = 3

x = 3 + 1 = 4

So, x = 4; y = 3

Answer: 4 sisters, 3 brothers
